FULL COURT MEETING

A Full Court meeting was held today (09.04.2014) in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and was attended by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Hon'ble, Mr. Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Mushir Alam and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dost Muhammad Khan. Syed Tahir Shahbaz, Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan also attended the meeting.

At the outset, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan welcomed the Hon’ble Judges and said that the meeting has been convened with a view to appreciate the services rendered by one of our brother Judges Hon’ble Mr. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain who is going to lay down the robes of office after few days and the second purpose of the meeting is to take stock of the performance of the Supreme Court in terms of dispensation of justice and disposal of cases for redressal of grievances of litigant public.

Praising the services of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain for judiciary, rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution, he said that the brother Judge worked very hard to perform his Constitutional duties. He did his job with full commitment, dedication n and honesty.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan paid glowing tributes to the outstanding legal career of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain both as a lawyer and as a Judge. The Hon’ble Chief Justice thanked the other Hon’ble Judges for making it convenient to attend this full court meeting which is being traditionally convened to say goodbye to a member of the apex court on his retirement. The other Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court also recalled the services of Hon’ble Mr Justice Khilji Arif Hussain for strengthening the institution of judiciary as a lawyer, as a Judge and as a person endowed with rare qualities of head and heart and the ability to write quality judgments and dispense justice freely and fairly to all and sundry.

Deliberating over the issue of institution, disposal and pendency of cases in Supreme Court, the full court meeting noted that as against institution figure of 4604 for the period from 11.01.2014 to 04.04.2014 in the Supreme Court, the Court decided 4570 cases during the said period. It was noted that there was rising trend in the institution of cases, however, the Court noted with satisfaction that almost as many cases were decided as were filed. This success was due to the untiring efforts of the Hon’ble Judges who worked hard and worked beyond the working hours.

The Hon’ble Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa informed the Full Court that appeals against acquittal were pending since 1999 but recently almost the entire backlog has been cleared and soon the appeals against acquittal instituted in 2014 will be decided.
