A Full Court meeting was held today (03.07.2014) in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and was attended by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Muhammad Ather Saeed, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Mushir Alam, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial. Syed Tahir Shahbaz, Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan also attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan welcomed the Hon’ble Judges participating in the Full Court meeting as well as Hon’ble Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial who was recently elevated as Judge Supreme Court of Pakistan and was attending the Full Court meeting for the very first time.

Hon’ble Chief Justice said that the purpose of the meeting was to review the performance of the Supreme Court in terms of dispensation of justice and disposal of cases and to deliberate on the issues and matters pertaining to functioning of the Court.

Discussing the issue of overall institution, disposal and pendency of cases in Supreme Court, the full court meeting noted that as against institution figure of 3862 cases for the period from 05.04.2014 to 30.06.2014 the Court decided 3533 cases during the said period. It was noted that there was rising trend in the institution of cases.

The Hon’ble Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa informed the Full Court that during the period of last six months out of 3700 criminal cases, 2000 have been disposed of aongwith freshly instituted cases, leaving only the pendency of 1700 cases. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan noted that it was a remarkable disposal.

At the end of meeting, the Hon’ble Judges lauded the services rendered by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani as Chief Justice of Pakistan as well as Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan who was going to lay down the robes of his office on 05.07.2014. They lauded the professional and legal acumen of the Hon’ble Chief Justice and said that he possessed the God gifted qualities of politeness, magnanimity, calmness and composure. They also praised his fondness for literature and they lauded his literary contribution for the institution of judiciary by authoring widely acclaimed judicial anthem “Justice for All”. He is an emblem of constitutionalism. They further said that the Hon’ble Chief Justice possessed extra-ordinary visionary qualities. His tenure as Chief Justice of Pakistan will always be remembered as golden period of judiciary in the history of Pakistan and he will long be remembered for his unprecedented judgments on human rights, environmental issues, rights of minorities and women.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice extended his gratitude to Hon’ble Judges and thanked them. He said that due to the cooperation and support of the Judges, it became possible for him to advance the cause of justice.
